Leipzig is almost over, but the 2009 event has already been scheduled. Wolfgang Marzin, CEO, claims Leipzig 2009 will be held August 19-23.. in Leipzig obviously. GC 08 also beat it’s previous record for amount of visitors. This year GC 08 attracted over 203,000 people in a 4 day period. It also attracted 234 software and hardware companies, up from 189 last year.

In a survey of visitors, it was also found that over 90% believed there should be another Games Convention in 2009. The general consensus may be different for other events like E3, whom have limited the number of attendees drastically.

In a recent interview Valve’s Doug Lambardi said Valve developing on the Playstation 3 may be possible despite past claims that the Playstation 3 is a “waste of time” by Gabe Newell, head of Valve.

“We’re always evaluating what’s happening in the marketplace and certainly something that’s happening in the last couple of months is that Sony’s managed to sell some boxes. So whether or not you like developing for that platform, if they’ve got millions of people connected to that platform and buying their games you have to take it seriously.”

The US Federal Trade Commission has given Electronic Arts the go in it’s purchase of Take-Two Interactive, the creators of the controversial and successful Grand Theft Auto series.

“Upon further review of this matter, it now appears that no additional action by the commission is warranted at this time. Accordingly, the investigation has been closed,”

The FTC investigation was initially created due to fears that the merger would decrease competition in the video game industry.

EA and Take-Two’s initial deal at $2 Billion dollars expired on Monday and the companies are now in “strategic discussions” for a new deal. Take-Two originally considered the $2 Billion dollar valuation too low considering their owner ship of the Grant Theft Auto series, their ownership of several key sports games, and their ownership of Bioshock, the 2007 hit which is likely to have a movie and many more sequels.

Analysts expect the merger to commence before the end of the week.
