EA’s Chris Corry has released some of the details on Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3’s Copy Protection. According to Corry, C&C: RA 3 will be using, big surprise, SecuROM as it’s copy protection software. On the good side, this time it’s a bit less strict as to the number of installs. It will allow you to install it on up to five different computers, unlike Mass Effect and Spore, which only allow three installs.
This time around, you will also be able to play the game without inserting the disc, assuming you register the game with EA’s online service.
While I agree with many of you on the subject of removing copy protection, it’s good to see they’re taking small steps. Let’s face it, there will be always be copy protection (likewise, there will always be pirates)–they’re trying to protect their investment in the game. But the copy protection should never limit a legitimate client from doing what they want with the software they bought.
